William and Beverly Harper
Deputation to Lithuania
William and Beverly Harper and family are in the process of moving to Lithuania right now.
Lithuania is slightly larger in area than West Virginia and has a population of 3.5 million people. They are going to Siauliai (Shu-lay) in northern Lithuania to start the first Baptist church in that region. They have missionaries and national pastors waiting for their arrival who have promised to do all they can to help them.
Spiritually it is still a very dark country. When the Iron Curtain fell in 1991, the gospel was taken to Lithuania for the first time. 80-90% of the people are Catholics. Drinking is a big problem and part of the reason the country has the highest suicide rate in the world.
